- Health
Cardno designs and implements programs to assist governments to build health care capacity through reform, training, education, procurement and facility upgrades, while, around the globe, the response to HIV and AIDS requires a comprehensive multi-sector approach that incorporates a range of public, private and non-government organisations. HIV and AIDS prevention and treatment requires appropriate and innovative interventions that deal with highly sensitive subjects relating to sexual activity, gender and illicit drug use.

Cardno’s approach to post conflict management is pragmatic, collaborative and flexible to help manage the risks and opportunities associated with the changing state of security. It involves rapid deployment for an early and sustained presence on the ground and relies upon working closely with communities to revive agricultural production, support small scale enterprises and help rehabilitate physical infrastructure.

- Private Sector and Enterprise Development
Cardno assists governments to build national capacity in cost effective and sustainable business development services such as organisational management and capacity building, access to microfinance, promotion and public awareness, information on new technologies and export and domestic market access. We advise on regulations that provide a conducive business environment. We address health and safety issues and assist with the development of networks to pool resources and widen market opportunities. Cardno also actively addresses critical issues and barriers that youths and many women entrepreneurs face.

- Public Sector Reform
The long term sustainability of development programs is dependant on a responsive and responsible public sector. Cardno provides support for strategic social, institutional and public expenditure reforms to gain the trust of citizens and through decentralisation, increase their participation.
An effective and accountable public sector creates cultural change which in turn improves service delivery. Internal communications allow agencies to implement common approaches to risk and, opportunity, increasing transparency and shared objectives across the public sector.

Our current focus areas include: land titling; economic restructuring; river basin management; irrigation; horticulture and livestock; and assistance through European Commission and DFID Framework Contracts and the AusAID program.
